DXB's success is driven by robust connections with key international markets. The airport supports Dubai's economy, which saw its GDP reach AED115 billion in Q1 2024, a 3.2% rise from the previous year. Dubai attracted 9.31 million international visitors in H1 2024, highlighting its appeal as a hub for talent, businesses, and investors.

The airport managed 39.7 million bags in H1 2024, marking a 6.7% year-on-year increase and the highest baggage volume ever handled in the first half of the year. Additionally, 92% of arriving baggage was delivered within 45 minutes of aircraft arrival.
India remains DXB's top destination country with 6.1 million passengers in H1 2024. China also showed significant growth with over 1 million passengers, an 80% year-on-year increase and a 90% recovery compared to 2019 levels. The average number of guests per aircraft movement was steady at 213, with a load factor of 77%. Direct traffic accounted for 56% of the total traffic while transfer traffic made up the remaining 44%. During Q2 alone, DXB saw an increase of guest numbers to reach 21.8 million.
Efficient Baggage Handling and Wait Times
DXB maintained high efficiency in baggage handling and guest wait times during H1. A real-time monitoring system helps prevent queues at various touchpoints ensuring smoother journeys for all guests.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, stated: "The record-breaking performance in the first half of this year highlights our strategic importance as a global aviation hub." He added that strong demand from key markets like India and China's resurgence have been crucial to their success.
Future Outlook
The outlook for DXB remains optimistic for the rest of the year with projections to break records by welcoming up to 91.8 million annual guests in 2024.
During H1, wait times were kept minimal at various control points: less than ten minutes at departure passport control for most guests; less than fifteen minutes at arrival passport control; and less than three minutes at departure security screening for nearly all guests.
The airport's established markets such as South Asia, Western Europe, GCC countries, and East Asia continue to play vital roles in its ongoing success.
The total number of flight movements reached impressive figures during H1 with significant contributions from major markets like the United States (1.7 million guests), Russia (1.3 million), and Germany (1.3 million).
This remarkable performance reaffirms DXB’s position as a leading global business and logistics hub while supporting Dubai’s economic ambitions effectively.
