The Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai, in collaboration with Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, recently hosted the third edition of ‘Dubai Iftar’ at Expo City Dubai. This interfaith iftar event brought together individuals from various faiths, including religious leaders, for a special meal. The gathering was marked by the presence of Muslim scholars, UAE officials, and senior figures from different organizations, alongside representatives from the consular and diplomatic community in the country.

This significant event forms part of the #RamadanInDubai campaign, initiated under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The annual iftar aims to highlight the values of generosity and sharing, fostering peaceful coexistence and social cohesion among the diverse population of the UAE.

Dubai Iftar Unites Faiths

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai, emphasized that ‘Dubai Iftar’ mirrors the spirit of tolerance and compassion that defines the Holy Month. She remarked on the UAE society's commitment to coexistence and religious freedom, rooted in mutual respect. "Ramadan offers us a chance to renew our commitment to advancing our society's development," Buhumaid stated.

She further noted that social progress is a collective endeavor that requires active participation from all society members through ideas, volunteerism, charitable actions, or supporting programs addressing societal needs.

Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, highlighted that the event showcases Emirati culture's embrace of coexistence and diversity. He pointed out Dubai's unique social fabric, home to residents from over 200 nationalities. "This initiative...conveys a message of love, tolerance, and peace from Dubai to all sects and religions worldwide," Al Muhairi added.

Ahmed Khalfan Al Mansouri, Cultural Communication Advisor and General Coordinator of Ramadan Activities in Dubai, mentioned Al Wasl Plaza in Expo City Dubai as the chosen venue for its symbolic significance in connecting minds and civilizations globally. The invitation list was expanded to include a broader array of representatives from various sects and religions, as well as members of the country's consular and diplomatic corps.

The #RamadanInDubai campaign is a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to celebrate the Holy Month. Overseen by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), the campaign aims to share the unique spirit, beauty, and warmth of Ramadan. It also seeks to create a unique ambiance across the city that captures the essence of Ramadan while reflecting authentic Emirati customs and traditions.
