Dubai Humanitarian Dispatches Critical Aid Shipment To Support Earthquake-Hit Communities In Myanmar

Dubai Humanitarian, under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has sent a vital shipment of aid to Myanmar. This action follows the severe earthquake that hit the country in late March. The shipment, organised with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), left Jebel Ali Port and is heading to Yangon. It contains over 167 metric tonnes of relief supplies like tarpaulins, kitchen sets, solar lamps, and buckets.

Dr. Khaled Khalifa, Senior Advisor and UNHCR’s Representative to the GCC countries, praised the UAE's significant humanitarian contributions. He noted how Dubai's international stockpiles are crucial for communities in crisis. "More than a month after the devastating earthquakes, communities in Myanmar are still enduring harsh conditions," he stated. These areas face inadequate shelter and damaged water systems, highlighting the urgent need for aid.

Aid Shipment from Dubai to Myanmar Earthquake Victims

The Global Humanitarian Impact Fund (GHIF) covered all transportation costs for this shipment. This funding allows international partners to enhance their operations in response to changing needs on the ground. The support from GHIF ensures that relief efforts can reach more people affected by disasters.

Giuseppe Saba, CEO and Board Member of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasised their commitment to providing consistent support during crises. "Every shipment we facilitate carries not just supplies, but a message of solidarity," he said. This shipment is the first of two planned sea deliveries following two airlifts last month. Their efforts focus on delivering hope and practical support through various means.

The ongoing challenges in Myanmar include overcrowded displacement sites and limited sanitation services. These issues make it crucial for aid organisations to continue their efforts. With Dubai Humanitarian's logistical support, UNHCR can send essential items to help vulnerable survivors in severely affected regions.

This initiative underscores Dubai's dedication to global humanitarian efforts. By facilitating aid shipments and hosting international stockpiles, Dubai plays a vital role in emergency response operations worldwide.
