Dubai's Strategic Communication Bolsters Global Reputation And Engagement
The General Network for Government Communication (GNGC) convened at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai. The meeting focused on enhancing Dubai’s global reputation, reviewing lessons from the government's response to severe storms earlier this year, and discussing the communication strategy for the 04 Unified Interactive Platform, which links the Dubai Government with its customers.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA in Dubai, emphasised the importance of effective communication under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He stated, "Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Government of Dubai has established effective communication operations, which is vital to achieving our strategic objectives and strengthening community engagement."

Al Marri highlighted the necessity for rapid communication during crises such as health issues, weather events or economic disruptions. This ensures that the public can respond appropriately. He also noted that effective communication helps bolster the government’s reputation both locally and internationally by showcasing achievements and initiatives to attract partnerships and investments.
Engineer Ahmed Al Mahri, Assistant Secretary-General of Government Communication and General Secretariat Affairs at The Executive Council of Dubai, praised Dubai's government entities for their coordinated communication strategies. He remarked, "Communication departments have a critical role in spotlighting Dubai's ambitious plans while engaging with both local communities and a global audience. Through these departments’ activities, Dubai has established a unique identity on the international stage as one of the world's best cities for living, working, and visiting."
Alia Al Theeb, Head of Media Affairs Section at the Dubai Government Media Office, discussed media communication's role in raising public awareness during emergencies. She shared key lessons in communication, stressing the need for swift, transparent, and objective information dissemination.
Maitha Al Gergawi from the Dubai Model Centre spoke about the communication strategy for Platform 04. She highlighted how this platform provides accessible channels for connecting with governments and receiving information. This model aims to ensure everyone can easily access necessary information.
Integrating Communication Activities
First Lieutenant Saif Al Falasi discussed his department's experience in building a positive reputation through various initiatives. Participants also explored integrating different government entities' communication activities under a unified approach to enhance Dubai’s reputation further.
The meeting underscored that coordinated efforts among various government bodies are crucial for maintaining a strong global presence. Effective communication strategies not only help manage crises but also promote transparency and trust within communities.
The discussions concluded with an emphasis on continuous improvement in communication practices to keep up with evolving challenges and opportunities.
