Dubai Future District Fund Champions Sustainability And Innovation At 2024 AGM

The Dubai Future District Fund (DFDF) convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Museum of the Future, Dubai, marking a significant stride in bolstering the UAE's innovation ecosystem. Established by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, DFDF's AGM was graced by eminent figures from the government, investment sectors, and leading national corporations. The meeting underscored the UAE's dedication to innovation through strategic venture investments.

At the AGM, discussions spanned sustainability, finance, and climate change. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, lauded DFDF's pivotal role in nurturing a diverse and sustainable economy. He underscored the UAE's goal to double its GDP within the next decade, focusing on sectors such as the circular economy. The 'We the UAE 2031' strategy was highlighted as a roadmap to elevate the country's GDP to AED 3 trillion by 2031, fostering collaboration between government and private sectors to boost economic influence.

DFDF's 2024 AGM: A Sustainable Future

DFDF's contributions to enhancing Dubai's venture capital landscape were spotlighted, with over 25 projects supported under its umbrella. This initiative has not only spurred talent growth but also expanded its investment portfolio significantly. Furthermore, DFDF has earmarked 20% of its AED 1 billion fund to bolster sustainable technology and innovation start-ups and scale-ups, aligning with the UAE's sustainability goals.

Enhancing Dubai’s Global Economic Stature

Khalfan Belhoul, Chairman of the DFDF Board and CEO of DFF, praised the fund for bridging innovative minds with financial support, thereby fostering entrepreneurship in Dubai. Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC and DFDF Board member, highlighted Dubai’s allure for regional and international companies due to its supportive business environment. Sharif El-Badawi, CEO of DFDF, discussed the fund’s role in positioning the Middle East as a frontrunner in the new economy industry by offering financial backing and business opportunities to emerging companies.

Panel sessions delved into creating a sustainable ecosystem for tech start-ups in Dubai and promoting innovation. Mathieu Flamini, former Arsenal player turned green economy advocate, shared insights on his transition from sports to sustainability advocacy. He emphasized the importance of wealthy investors in championing sustainable development.
