Aziz Dougaz Seeks Global Recognition At Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Inspired By Malek Jaziri
Aziz Dougaz is set to make his debut in the main draw of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. This marks a significant milestone for the Tunisian player, who aims to emulate Malek Jaziri's achievements. Dougaz, currently ranked World No. 216, turned professional in 2020 and recently qualified for his first Grand Slam main draw at the Australian Open.
Jaziri, who retired at the Dubai tournament in 2023, was the first Tunisian male to compete in a Grand Slam singles main draw. His career has been an inspiration for Dougaz. Jaziri is one of only five Arab men to have reached the top 50 in PIF ATP rankings. Dougaz has received a wildcard entry into this year's ATP 500 event in Dubai.

Dougaz acknowledges Jaziri's influence on his career path. He believes that participating in Dubai can be pivotal for any player's career. "It started even with Malek Jaziri," Dougaz noted, highlighting how Dubai helped Jaziri establish himself globally. Dougaz hopes to follow this path and prove his competitive level.
The opportunity to play in Dubai holds personal significance for Dougaz. "It means so much for me to be playing here as this is a tournament I have dreamt of competing in since I was a child," he shared. The 27-year-old will face Zizou Bergs on Court 1 during the second game of the day.
Dougaz expressed gratitude towards the tournament organisers for their support through a wildcard invitation. He praised their efforts in promoting Arab players and advancing tennis within the region. Their backing plays a crucial role in nurturing local talent and providing them with international exposure.
The presence of an Arab audience adds another layer of motivation for Dougaz. He is eager to perform well before them, acknowledging that their encouragement will drive him to deliver his best performance on court.
This event represents more than just another competition for Dougaz; it is a chance to fulfil a lifelong dream while showcasing his skills on an international stage.
