Dubai Culture's Ramadan Festivities: A Blend Of Tradition And Philanthropy

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has unveiled a rich array of public events and activities for Ramadan, aiming to showcase the genuine social customs and traditions of the holy month in Dubai. Among these initiatives is the fifth edition of the humanitarian Ramadan Heroes initiative and the organisation of ‘Ramadan Nights’ at various cultural and heritage venues. This effort is in support of the ‘Ramadan in Dubai’ festivities, a collaboration between the Dubai Media Council and numerous government and private entities.

In a significant move towards fulfilling its social responsibility, Dubai Culture has partnered with talabat UAE, a long-term ally and co-founder of the initiative, along with the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), to launch the 5th Ramadan Heroes. This initiative is designed to foster community unity and support underprivileged members by encouraging donations of Iftar and Suhoor meals through the Ramadan Heroes Virtual Restaurant on the talabat UAE app. These meals are then delivered safely and swiftly across the country in coordination with ERC's field teams.

Dubai's Ramadan: Tradition Meets Giving

Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director of the Marketing & Corporate Communication Department at Dubai Culture, expressed pride in the local community's humanitarian spirit, as demonstrated by the ‘Ramadan Heroes’ initiative. She remarked on the project's role in promoting solidarity, enhancing the culture of giving, and strengthening compassion bonds to alleviate the burdens on less fortunate community members during Ramadan.

The first of the ‘Ramadan Nights’ series will be held at the Etihad Museum on 15 and 16 March, focusing on the UAE's contributions to lunar space station development. The event will feature entertainment shows and workshops in partnership with the Dubai Astronomy Group and Gulf Photo Plus. Visitors will have a chance to delve into space secrets through a mobile planetarium and telescope observation stations.

From 22 to 31 March, Al Shindagha Museum, the UAE’s largest heritage museum, will host various activities linked to Ramadan traditions. Workshops on traditional ‘Mukhawara’ making, carpet weaving using palm fronds, scented candle making, and traditional Emirati jewelry crafting will be available. Interactive workshops for children will include creative arts using gypsum, henna preparation, and traditional folk games.

The ‘Bu Tebaila Walk’ aims to revive the tradition of ‘Steps of Suhoor’, inviting families and children to join Bu Tebaila on a tour through Al Shindagha Historical Neighbourhood while singing traditional folk songs. Additionally, in collaboration with the ‘EmpowerHer’ initiative, a Ramadan market will be set up for 10 days at the museum’s Visitor Centre. This market will feature a wide range of products from creative talents, alongside special Suhoor meals from various vendors such as Chef Maitha, Dubai Food Babes, Sultan Eats, among others.

Through these initiatives, Dubai Culture seeks not only to celebrate Ramadan's authentic values but also to reinforce the UAE's global humanitarian stance by promoting tolerance and generosity integral to Emirati social fabric.
