Dubai Culture Launches Harakat Sikka To Support Aspiring Animators In Dubai

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is now accepting applications for "Harakat Sikka," a programme focused on stop-motion animation and visual storytelling. This initiative aims to enhance Dubai's arts scene and strengthen its position as a global creative economy hub. The course, available in both Arabic and English, is open to UAE nationals and residents aged 18 or older, including students, artists, filmmakers, designers, and writers. No prior experience is required.

House 436 in Al Shindagha Historical Neighbourhood will host the month-long programme from 18th August to 26th September 2025. Participants will meet three times weekly under the guidance of director-artist Boubaker Boukhari. Known for his experimental stop-motion techniques infused with folklore, Boukhari will lead the sessions in an engaging environment designed to foster creativity.

Harakat Sikka: New Animation Training in Dubai

The programme covers all aspects of stop-motion animation. Participants will learn about concept development, storyboarding, filming, editing, and strategies for distribution and festival submissions. Practical workshops will focus on character design, visual arts, and audio recording. The culmination of these efforts will be a public screening of their projects at the Sikka Art & Design Festival.

Dubai Culture encourages those interested in storytelling to apply by submitting short written responses detailing their motivation and interest in animation. Applications must be submitted via a specified link by 8th August. Selection will be based on demonstrated interest in animation and may include a CV or creative portfolio if applicable.

This initiative not only provides training but also contributes to the growth of Dubai's creative community. By offering such opportunities, Dubai Culture aims to nurture local talent and inspire new voices in the field of animation.
