Dubai Culture Launches New Season Of Reading Box Initiative To Promote Literacy And Cultural Engagement

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has unveiled the latest season of its renowned 'Reading Box' initiative. Scheduled from 28th October to 6th November 2025 at City Centre Mirdif, this event is part of the School of Life initiative. It aims to foster a love for reading among both children and adults, aligning with the UAE’s National Literacy Strategy 2016–2026 and Dubai Culture’s mission to enhance societal development.

This year marks a decade since the 'Reading Box' was first introduced, coinciding with the UAE Reading Law's goals. The law seeks to embed reading habits in society, boost human capital, encourage national literary output, and aid in building a knowledge-based economy. The 2025 programme aligns with Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy and promises engaging panel discussions, poetry evenings, and creative workshops.

New Season of Dubai's Reading Box Initiative Announced

Since its inception in 2016, 'Reading Box' has become a dynamic platform. It has drawn over 33,000 participants, including nearly 2,000 students from 70 schools. The initiative has hosted around 380 activities such as debates and cultural events while distributing 3,000 books. It boasts a happiness index of 96%, reflecting its positive impact on attendees.

Visitors this season can expect opportunities to develop new skills and delve into various cultural disciplines. They will also have the chance to interact directly with Emirati and resident writers, poets, and intellectuals. These interactions aim to nurture future generations and support Dubai Culture’s vision of establishing the emirate as a global cultural centre.

The inaugural edition took place at The Dubai Mall before moving to City Walk and Dubai Festival City Mall. Since 2019, City Centre Mirdif has been its permanent venue. This location continues to engage the public effectively while supporting Dubai Culture’s goal of being an incubator for creativity and a hub for talent.

The 'Reading Box' initiative not only promotes literacy but also strengthens community ties by bringing people together through shared cultural experiences. Its success over the years highlights its role in fostering a vibrant literary culture within Dubai and beyond.
