Dubai Launches AED 112 Million Project To Revitalize Dubai Creek Pier And Support Walls
Dubai Municipality has embarked on a significant project to reconstruct and enhance the supporting walls along Dubai Creek's Deira side, with an investment of AED112 million. This initiative is designed to improve the creek's retaining walls by upgrading the dock, repairing sections that have deteriorated over the last 50 years, and averting potential flooding during adverse weather conditions. The project aims to reduce disruptions to commercial traffic due to flooding or inclement weather.
The restoration effort is divided into two phases. The first phase focuses on a 2.1 km stretch along the Deira side of Dubai Creek, where the site will be segmented, and each section will be sequentially developed to ensure continuous docking traffic. The subsequent phase will extend to a 2.3 km length on the Bur Dubai side.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that this project underscores Dubai Municipality's dedication to making Dubai a more appealing and innovative city by enhancing its coastal facilities and infrastructure. The ultimate objective is to reinforce Dubai's status as a leading global tourism destination and boost its economic and commercial growth.
Al Hajri highlighted, "The project is set to enhance security and safety for maritime traffic and commercial operations within Dubai Creek. As a pivotal emblem of the city’s development, Dubai Creek is a bustling conduit at the core of Dubai, facilitating over 13,000 ships annually and playing a crucial role in the economic and social prosperity of the emirate."
He further added that measures have been taken to mitigate climate change risks and rising sea levels, with technical studies conducted to create construction designs that improve the efficiency of marine docks on both banks, adhering to global standards.
The 14-month project timeline includes the restoration of the 2.1 km Deira pier. This involves replacing and rehabilitating damaged sections of the concrete wall, extending it to a depth of 8 meters and raising its height to 3 meters. These enhancements are aimed at ensuring safe docking for ships in the area.
By launching this project, the Municipality aims to improve services and facilities for safe docking and navigation, which will be supported by the installation of 200 anchors across the dock.
Dubai Creek remains one of the most crucial historic maritime channels in the Emirate, marking the beginning of Dubai’s trade interactions with the world over a century ago. Despite extensive development in the Emirate of Dubai, the Creek continues to hold its historical, commercial, and economic significance. It stands as a major tourist attraction for residents, visitors, and tourists alike, alongside modern projects prevalent in the emirate.
