Dubai Chambers Hosts Comprehensive Workshops On Legal And Compliance Issues For Businesses
Dubai Chambers recently hosted three workshops focused on legal and compliance matters. These sessions aimed to equip businesses with the necessary knowledge to navigate the UAE's regulatory landscape. Topics covered included UAE Maritime Law, corporate governance, and Federal Tax Authority procedures. The workshops saw strong participation from the local business community, with 111 attendees in total.
The first workshop centred on the UAE’s Maritime Law and industry. It was organised in collaboration with Stephenson Harwood LLP, the National Association of Freight and Logistics, and Freight Disputes & Legal Solutions. Attendees received a comprehensive overview of the UAE Maritime Law, learning about importers' and exporters' roles and responsibilities. The session also explained Incoterms and Letters of Credit.

Participants gained insights into freight forwarding's legal implications and current maritime industry trends like decarbonisation and new technology adoption. This workshop provided valuable information for those involved in maritime activities.
The second session was an awareness workshop on Tax Agents Registration. It was held in partnership with the Federal Tax Authority as part of the Zero Government Bureaucracy initiative. The focus was on enhancing understanding of tax compliance requirements related to registering Tax Agents within the business community.
This session aimed to clarify procedures and ensure businesses are well-informed about their obligations under tax laws, contributing to smoother operations within the regulatory framework.
Corporate Governance Insights
The third workshop, titled ‘The Governance & Internal Control Imperative,’ was conducted with KPMG's collaboration. It explored strategies for building resilient businesses by strengthening internal control frameworks and enhancing corporate governance practices.
Through practical insights and case studies, participants learned about global regulatory outlooks, designing effective internal controls, IT controls' importance, and fostering a culture conducive to long-term sustainability and growth.
