Dubai AI Centre Gathers 33 Government Bodies To Spearhead AI Innovation

In a significant move to bolster Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration within the public sector, the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) convened a gathering of representatives from 33 government entities in Dubai. This assembly, known as the AI Majlis, is part of a series aimed at promoting leadership in AI adoption across government bodies. The session focused on discussing global trends in technology, emerging opportunities, and formulating strategies to navigate the future of AI in Dubai's government operations, aligning with DCAI's core objectives.

The establishment of DCAI in June 2023 by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum underscores Dubai's ambition to lead in the application of AI within the public sector. Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, highlighted the necessity for government entities to align their efforts towards a unified goal through knowledge and experience sharing. He stressed the importance of preparing for technological shifts that will redefine service delivery and operations within the government.

Dubai Leads in Government AI Innovation

Participants at the AI Majlis underscored the critical role of collaboration in crafting legislation and regulatory frameworks conducive to AI integration into government systems. Such frameworks are essential for enhancing operational flexibility, efficiency, and innovation in service development. The discussions also touched on the importance of fostering a culture of innovation and creativity, encouraging the adoption of AI in various governmental functions.

Furthermore, DCAI recently concluded an accelerator program involving 30 companies from 13 countries. These companies collaborated at AREA 2071 over eight weeks to develop over 300 projects using AI to address more than 100 challenges identified by Dubai’s government entities. The Centre announced that 72 collaborative AI projects would be initiated between government agencies and participating companies across two tracks: the future of government services and media and communication services sectors.

Supervised by key stakeholders including the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Government of Dubai Media Office, and Dubai Digital Authority, DCAI is committed to enhancing Dubai government entities' use of future technologies. This initiative aims not only at improving future readiness but also at developing AI-related legislation, adopting strategic approaches for AI integration, attracting global solutions, and nurturing national talent in the field.
