Dubai Centre For AI And South African AI Association Collaborate To Launch New AI Trade Hub

The Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) has joined forces with the South African Artificial Intelligence Association (SAAIA) to establish a specialised AI trade and investment hub. This initiative aims to accelerate cross-border collaboration, creating new opportunities for AI startups and investors in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. The hub is supported by various regional partners, including those from Europe.

The Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), founded by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, plays a pivotal role as the Middle East launch partner. Overseen by DFF, DCAI aims to remove barriers related to market access and capital. The hub will act as a catalyst for trade, innovation exchange, and responsible AI development in emerging markets with high potential.

Saeed Al Falasi, Director of DCAI, emphasised the importance of international collaboration in AI. He stated, "AI is redrawing the map of global opportunity, and cross-continental collaboration is key to navigating it. This partnership is designed to help ideas, talent, and capital flow freely across borders." He highlighted Dubai's strategic position as a global crossroads where innovative ideas can flourish.

Dr. Nick Bradshaw, Founder and Chairman of SAAIA, pointed out that while AI investment is booming in Europe and the Middle East, Africa's innovation landscape remains underrepresented. He noted that Africa hosts some of the world's most dynamic startups. The partnership with DCAI aims to bridge this gap by providing African startups with better access to global capital, markets, and networks.

Africa's untapped potential in AI is evident from success stories like the $628 million acquisition of Tunisian AI startup InstaDeep. The new hub will facilitate connections between startups and investors, support business growth, and amplify emerging AI ecosystems' voices.

Dr. Bradshaw further explained that this partnership goes beyond symbolism; it serves as a practical channel for AI-driven trade and investment between Africa, the Middle East, and other regions. "It’s time to act," he said, expressing excitement about moving forward with Dubai as their regional partner.

This initiative underscores the significance of fostering cross-continental collaboration in AI development. By connecting diverse ecosystems across continents, it aims to shape a more inclusive future for AI globally.
