Meet Dubai's Olympic Hopefuls: A Diverse Team Set To Compete In Paris 2024

Six young expat athletes will proudly represent Dubai in the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

These athletes include badminton player Tanisha Crasto (India) and swimmers Yazan Al Bab (Palestine), Muhammad Ahmed Durrani (Pakistan), Rana Saad Al Din (Sudan), Karen Belbeisi (Jordan), and Christina Rach (Eritrea).

Dubai s Best to Compete in Paris 2024

Tanisha Crasto, a 21-year-old badminton player born and raised in Dubai, expressed her excitement about qualifying for the 2024 Paris Games. She will represent India in badminton doubles alongside Ashwini Ponnappa. Tanisha credited the Dubai Sports Council's efforts and the Dubai Badminton Time programme for providing her with the training opportunities needed to reach this level.

Training Facilities in Dubai

Swimmers Karen Belbeisi and Christina Rach have been training at Hamilton Academy Dubai, located at the Hamdan Sports Complex. This state-of-the-art facility has helped them develop their skills since their teenage years, leading to their qualification for the Olympics.

Three other swimmers, Yazan Al Bawwab, Muhammad Ahmed Durrani, and Rana Saad Al Din, have trained at Speedo Dubai Academy. They have competed in various age group competitions held at the Hamdan Sports Complex, showcasing their talents on multiple stages.

Support Systems

Tanisha's father, Clifford Crasto, highlighted the importance of top-class training facilities and support from the academic wing in Dubai. He mentioned that these resources allowed his daughter to practice diligently every day. "The ever-ready presence of top-class coaches and sports specialists here have further contributed to giving our daughter the necessary experience to develop her level," he added.

The availability of competitions throughout the year has also been beneficial for athletes like Tanisha. Her father noted that these events provided valuable experience and exposure, helping her progress in her sport.

Achievements

All six athletes have consistently performed well over time, winning numerous titles and medals at local, regional, and international championships. Their dedication and hard work have earned them spots at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
