Dubai International Airport Back To Full Capacity After Severe Weather
Following the UAE's most significant rainfall event in nearly three-quarters of a century, Dubai Airports have announced a return to full operational capacity. This news comes after the area experienced severe weather conditions that impacted the normal functioning of Dubai International Airport (DXB), leading to the cancellation and diversion of flights. Paul Griffiths, the CEO of Dubai Airports, confirmed that the flight schedules are back to normal, accommodating around 1,400 flights daily. This swift recovery was facilitated by the clearance of roads surrounding the airport from water accumulation, allowing for the resumption of regular logistics and manpower activities.
Griffiths highlighted the monumental effort required to overcome the disruptions caused by the adverse weather conditions. The airport faced a staggering number of 2,155 flight cancellations and 115 diversions. The recovery process involved extensive coordination with airline partners and service providers to reorganize flight schedules, enhance manpower, and provide support to affected passengers. The CEO expressed his admiration for the dedication demonstrated by the employees of Dubai Airports, airline and government agencies, commercial and service partners during this period. Their tireless efforts were instrumental in keeping the airport's operations running and assisting guests through the challenges.
Despite the resumption of normal operations, the airport is still tackling some remaining challenges, such as managing the backlog of baggage. Griffiths assured that they are working closely with service partners to address these issues and extended gratitude to guests for their patience during the recovery phase. To facilitate smoother operations and minimize congestion, passengers are advised to arrive at their terminal only three hours before their flight's departure time.
This event stands as a testament to the resilience and collaborative effort of the Dubai Airports community in restoring full functionality following what has been described as the most challenging weather event in its recent history. As the situation stabilizes, passengers and guests can look forward to a return to the efficient and reliable service that Dubai International Airport is known for.
