Dubai Expands Electric Vehicle Charging Network To Over 1,270 Points For Sustainable Mobility
Dubai has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging network to over 1,270 points, according to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). This expansion is part of a collaboration between DEWA and various public and private sector partners. The initiative aligns with Dubai's goal to increase the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50% by 2050.
Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA is committed to promoting green mobility in Dubai. In 2014, they launched the EV Green Charger initiative, marking the region's first public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. This effort supports Dubai’s vision of becoming a global model for smart urban development. By 2025, over 40,600 EVs are expected on Dubai roads, contributing to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

DEWA has developed a Regulatory Framework for EV Charging Infrastructure in Dubai. This framework ensures that both current and future needs are met, keeping Dubai at the forefront of green mobility innovation. It includes two tracks: direct development by DEWA and its subsidiaries, and infrastructure development by independent operators licensed by DEWA.
Expanding Charging Infrastructure
The EV Green Charger network offers various types of chargers including ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box options. To further enhance this infrastructure, DEWA partnered with Parkin to install charging stations in key locations managed by Parkin. This collaboration aims to improve user experience significantly.
Accessibility and User Experience
All users can access EV charging through a guest mode feature, even if they are not registered. Additionally, customers can find charging stations using DEWA’s smart app, official website, or through 14 other digital platforms. These efforts aim to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for everyone in Dubai.
DEWA's initiatives reflect a strong commitment to sustainable transport solutions in line with national goals. By fostering an environment conducive to green mobility, Dubai is setting an example for urban development that prioritises environmental responsibility while enhancing technological infrastructure.
