DSQC Revisits Honorary Doctorate Awarded To His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi By Hanyang University
The Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (DSQC) has revisited a significant event from 2011 as part of its "Academic Degree" series for June 2025. This event was the awarding of an honorary doctorate in political science to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, by Hanyang University (HYU) in South Korea.
Hanyang University, one of Korea’s oldest academic institutions, recognised the Sharjah ruler for his contributions to political and economic development. The university also acknowledged his efforts in fostering cultural exchange between the UAE and South Korea. During the ceremony in Seoul, His Highness emphasised the pivotal role of education and research in societal advancement.

His Highness expressed pride in receiving the honorary degree from such a respected institution. He praised HYU’s academic programmes for their emphasis on connecting research with practical applications. He also highlighted Sharjah's vision for knowledge and scientific progress, referencing leading academic institutions like the University of Sharjah (UOS) and the American University of Sharjah (AUS).
"Sharjah is a lively emirate that brings the East and West together, while holding on to the values and traditions of its people," he stated. His Highness stressed expanding industrial and service sectors through international collaboration. "We believe that exchanging ideas and visits will help build strong cultural and economic ties that benefit our nations and lead to prosperity," he added.
Dr. Duck-Ho Lim, former president of HYU, praised the global impact of the Sharjah ruler’s contributions. He expressed hope for ongoing cooperation between South Korea and the UAE. Dr. Jae-Ok Park, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, detailed His Highness’s achievements that have positioned Sharjah as a cultural hub in the Arab world.

Founded in 1939, Hanyang University is renowned for its engineering programmes. Its alumni have significantly contributed to South Korea's development and technological advancements both domestically and internationally. The honorary doctorate is one among many international recognitions awarded to His Highness for his leadership in education, culture, and public service.
His Highness’s various publications and initiatives aim at enriching lives within his community. These efforts have helped establish Sharjah as a centre for cultural excellence across the Arab region.
