Saudi Arabia Railways And Arsenale Unveil Final Designs For Dream Of The Desert Luxury Train
Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) and Arsenale, an Italian hospitality firm, have revealed the final designs for the Dream of the Desert train. This marks the Middle East's first five-star luxury train. The announcement aligns with the Italian Prime Minister's visit to Saudi Arabia. This development is a significant step in fulfilling last year's agreement between SAR and Arsenale.
The train's interiors draw inspiration from Saudi Arabia's desert landscapes and traditional architecture. Earthy tones, luxurious textiles, and intricate details reflect refined craftsmanship. Architectural motifs from iconic landmarks like Madain Saleh and Hail are integrated into the design, offering passengers a visually enriching journey.

Dream of the Desert aims to redefine luxury rail travel in Saudi Arabia. It aligns with Vision 2030’s goal to boost high-end tourism and support cultural sectors. The train has 14 carriages with 34 luxury suites, providing an exclusive experience for travellers. It combines world-class hospitality with exquisite design.
Departing from Riyadh, the train will travel along SAR’s Northern Railway network. Guests can explore some of Saudi Arabia's most stunning heritage and natural sites. Collaborating with the Ministry of Culture, curated cultural programs will immerse passengers in Saudi traditions during their journey.
The Saudi Tourism Authority and the Center for Development Authorities Support are crafting unique itineraries that integrate seamlessly with the train journey. These itineraries offer guests a unique glimpse into Saudi heritage, enhancing their travel experience.
Strategic Importance of Luxury Rail Travel
Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of SAR, highlighted the project's strategic importance: "The National Transport and Logistics Strategy aims to develop an integrated transport network that strengthens Saudi Arabia's position as a global logistics hub."
SAR CEO Dr. Bashar bin Khalid AlMalik emphasized SAR’s role in advancing Vision 2030 objectives: "At SAR, we believe our role extends beyond operating a railway network—we are actively attracting global investments to introduce advanced transport solutions that support economic growth and regional connectivity."
Paolo Barletta, CEO of Arsenale Group, expressed enthusiasm for the project: "When we first envisioned Dream of the Desert, our goal was to create an unparalleled travel experience—one that would take guests on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Saudi Arabia."
A Tribute to Culture and Craftsmanship
The train’s interiors reflect Saudi culture through elegant reception lounges inspired by traditional majlis settings. Hand-carved wooden elements and geometric patterns embody warm hospitality. The dining experience combines heritage with sophistication through a menu crafted by top local and international chefs.
Passengers will also enjoy curated art pieces showcasing Saudi Arabia’s cultural landmarks along the train’s corridors. With these designs unveiled, Dream of the Desert is set to redefine luxury travel in Saudi Arabia by connecting deeply with its cultural identity.
Dream of the Desert is expected to start operations by late Q3 2026. Booking details and exclusive packages will soon be available on its official website.
