DP World Achieves Historic Milestone By Surpassing 100 Million TEU Capacity Globally

DP World has reached a significant milestone by handling over 100 million TEUs of container capacity globally since its inception. This achievement highlights the company's strategic investments exceeding $11 billion in infrastructure over the past decade. These efforts position DP World as a leader in global trade, enabling it to support customer growth and offer comprehensive supply chain solutions.

In the last decade, DP World's capacity expanded by 33%, driven by new developments and acquisitions. Starting with 75.6 million TEUs in 2014, the company has consistently modernised its infrastructure to meet evolving global supply chain demands. The company's global gross container handling capacity increased by 5% in the past year, solidifying its 9.2% share of the global container market.

DP World Surpasses 100 Million TEU Capacity

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Chief Executive of DP World, stated, "Crossing the 100 million TEU mark is a momentous milestone in our journey, which began 45 years ago. This achievement reflects our commitment to investing in world-class ports and logistics infrastructure to make trade flow. We are confident that the global container market will continue to grow in the years ahead and we will have the capacity to service it."

DP World has invested significantly in ports worldwide over the last two decades, often targeting less traditional markets with substantial socio-economic impacts. A notable development this year was taking over Tanzania's Dar es Salaam facility, which had not been updated since the 1950s. Improvements there have drastically reduced vessel waiting times from over a month.

Tiemen Meester, COO of Ports & Terminals at DP World, remarked on this achievement: "Reaching such an impressive milestone is significant for us, but it’s what that figure represents in terms of the flow of global trade and what it has enabled in the markets we have invested in that is really exciting."

Future Growth and Infrastructure Projects

According to Drewry Container Forecaster, global container throughput is expected to rise by 2.8% this year. DP World integrates infrastructure with multimodal transportation and logistics services to connect businesses with customers efficiently. New port projects are underway at Ndayane in Senegal and Tuna-Tekre in India.

This year also marks important anniversaries for DP World: Jebel Ali Port celebrates 45 years, while Jebel Ali Freezone marks its 40th anniversary. These milestones reflect DP World's rapid growth and dedication to innovation within trade sectors.

Through extensive experience operating in dynamic markets worldwide, DP World has developed a deep understanding of complex supply chains. This expertise allows them to create tailored solutions where others may see challenges.
