DP World Joins Forces With Masdar To Enhance Renewable Energy Use In Port Operations
DP World, a prominent player in global port operations, has recently entered into a strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), renowned for its leadership in the clean energy sector. This collaboration is set to explore and implement renewable energy systems across DP World's operations in the Middle East and Africa, marking a significant move towards sustainable port operations.
The three-year partnership will focus on identifying suitable locations for the potential deployment of solar energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS), with Saudi Arabia, Senegal, and Egypt being the initial targets. This initiative not only aims to enhance the adoption of renewable energy within DP World’s supply chain but also seeks to address the challenges faced in emerging economies by sharing insights on the regulatory landscape.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, emphasized the importance of this partnership in driving sustainable operations and reducing the carbon footprint within the supply chain industry. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, highlighted the commitment of both entities to decarbonize port operations and explore renewable energy solutions to support hard-to-abate sectors.
Following the successful hosting of COP28 in the UAE, this partnership underscores the urgent need for global energy transition efforts. Masdar stands at the forefront of advancing renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies to tackle global sustainability challenges. Meanwhile, DP World aims to leverage its extensive network across 75 countries to foster climate action and develop long-term solutions that align with international climate goals.
DP World's commitment to decarbonization is evident in its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and net zero emissions by 2050. This aligns with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) "Race to Zero" initiative and the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategy. Through collaboration with stakeholders including logistics companies, NGOs, governments, and cargo owners, DP World is dedicated to showcasing new technologies and fostering resilience against climate change while ensuring uninterrupted global trade.
This partnership between DP World and Masdar represents a pivotal step towards integrating renewable energy solutions into global supply chains, setting a precedent for sustainable practices in the port operations sector.
