DoH And Ma'an Collaborate To Raise Over Dh15 Million For Healthcare Research And Innovation In Abu Dhabi

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and the Authority of Social Contribution (Ma'an) have successfully raised over AED15 million. This funding will support healthcare research and innovation in Abu Dhabi. The initiative follows the inaugural Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week 2024, showcasing collaboration between DoH, Ma’an, and community supporters.

DoH is committed to transforming healthcare through science and technology. It has launched programmes to aid researchers and entrepreneurs in tackling healthcare challenges. These efforts aim to establish Abu Dhabi as a global life sciences hub, promoting health and well-being locally and beyond.

AED 15 Million Raised for Healthcare Innovation

Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Under-Secretary of DoH, stated, "DoH remains dedicated to working with its distinguished partners across the sector to further strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a global life sciences hub and incubator for healthcare innovation. We recognise the vital role that research and innovation play in enhancing the healthcare system’s effectiveness and efficiency, ensuring best-in-class and timely care for all community members."

DoH has outlined key research areas to shift from reactive to preventive healthcare. These include cell and gene research, precision medicine, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer treatment, behavioural health for People of Determination, emergency preparedness for infectious diseases, longevity studies, smart hospitals, telemedicine, and metabolic syndromes.

Dr. Al Ghaithi also mentioned funding challenges in healthcare research. She said that DoH is committed to overcoming these through collaborations with local and global partners. The goal is to foster a culture of research addressing pressing issues while strengthening ties between institutions engaged in clinical trials.

Global Recognition in Research

The Department's role in enabling research spans fields like artificial intelligence, medical devices, telemedicine, big data, assistive technologies, wearable devices, and augmented reality. It has incubated over 85 startups by collaborating with local and international partners to enhance Abu Dhabi's health-tech ecosystem.

DoH regularly offers research grants supporting innovators within Abu Dhabi’s healthcare ecosystem. These grants provide up to AED2 million per project. They help generate knowledge addressing critical challenges shaping future healthcare advancements for generations.

The ongoing initiatives by DoH reflect its dedication to fostering innovation in healthcare. By focusing on strategic partnerships and funding opportunities, it aims to enhance the effectiveness of the healthcare system in Abu Dhabi while positioning it as a leader in life sciences globally.
