DoH Allocates Over AED 19 Million To Transform Healthcare Through Research In Abu Dhabi

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), in collaboration with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, has allocated over AED19 million in grants through the Healthcare Research and Innovation Fund. This initiative aims to advance fields like cell and gene therapies, precision medicine, and cancer treatments. The goal is to revolutionise healthcare delivery and enhance patient outcomes, reflecting a strong partnership between DoH, Ma’an, and community stakeholders.

Eleven recipients, including academics and healthcare professionals, have been awarded funding for their research projects under DoH’s Research and Innovation Centre. These projects focus on cancer research, technology integration, and chronic disease management. Initiatives include virtual reality for breast cancer survivors, paediatric metabolic health solutions, precision medicine applications, and treatments for inherited eye diseases.

DoH Invests AED 19 Million in Healthcare Research

The grants were announced at the inaugural DoH Research and Innovation Summit. This event is part of DoH’s strategy to transform regional healthcare through science, technology, and community collaboration. The summit gathered 200 researchers, innovators, investors, and policymakers to foster partnerships for healthcare innovation.

Prof. Waseem Qasim from University College London delivered a keynote lecture on Cell and Gene Therapy. Panel discussions explored the UAE's research ecosystem, focusing on clinical trial opportunities and challenges. These discussions united industry experts to advance cutting-edge research in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Asma Al Mannaei from DoH stated that research funding is crucial for progress. "Research funding is the foundation of progress," she said. "These grants empower innovators to develop transformative solutions." She emphasised that investing in research builds a proactive healthcare ecosystem meeting community needs while shaping global healthcare's future.

Faisal Alhmoudi from Ma’an expressed excitement about contributions to healthcare. "We are thrilled with the significant contributions towards healthcare," he said. He highlighted that these grants align with their objective of addressing social priorities in Abu Dhabi by enhancing the sector.
