Sharjah Award For Voluntary Work Recognises Distinguished Supporters Of Volunteer Initiatives

The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW) recognises organisations and individuals contributing to volunteer work. The "Distinguished Supporter of Volunteer Work Award" honours those offering financial or intellectual backing or shaping policies that enhance volunteer initiatives. This award is part of the 22nd session, running until 15th January 2025.

Fatima Musa Al Belushi, Executive Director of the Award, highlighted the importance of this category in promoting a volunteering culture. She urged organisations and individuals to bolster volunteer efforts. The award covers various categories, including government bodies, civil institutions, private companies, educational entities, and individuals. This broad scope aims to inspire contributions from all sectors.

SAVW Awards Distinguished Supporters of Volunteers

To qualify for participation, support must significantly impact the success and sustainability of volunteer initiatives. It should align with volunteer programme objectives and be provided during the participation year. Importantly, this support should not involve direct charitable acts like donations or zakat but focus on enhancing volunteer programmes.

The award distinguishes itself by prioritising voluntary programmes over direct charity actions. It seeks to create lasting social impacts through structured initiatives rather than one-time charitable gestures.

Participants can choose from three support types: financial, cognitive, or policy-related. Financial support may include cash, goods, or services for at least two programmes with a minimum AED500,000 allocation. Knowledge support involves publishing works on volunteerism, requiring at least one book publication.

Policy support encourages participants to develop effective policies that promote and regulate volunteer work within their organisations. This approach ensures a structured framework for fostering volunteering activities.
