Discover Saudi Cinema Showcases Emerging Filmmakers At Venice Event
The Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the Film Commission, is showcasing nine short films by emerging Saudi filmmakers at the Abbazia building in Venice, Italy. This event, running from August 28 to September 2, is part of a broader cultural program. The films cover various genres like dark comedies and poetic documentaries, exploring themes such as identity, grief, and community dynamics.
Many of these films have been recognised at significant festivals such as the Saudi Film Festival and the Red Sea International Film Festival. Some are debut works by new filmmakers whose stories resonate globally despite their local roots. This initiative aims to highlight Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage and artistic diversity on an international platform.

The showcase aligns with Saudi Arabia’s participation in the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale 2025. It is part of ongoing efforts to enhance Saudi culture's global presence. By introducing international audiences to Saudi art and creativity, the ministry seeks to promote cultural exchange and dialogue.
On August 29, a panel titled "The Saudi Film Industry: Crafting Cinematic Success" will be held at the Abbazia building. Directors and industry experts will discuss developing a national cinematic identity. They will address challenges and opportunities within the industry while highlighting cinema's role in reflecting new social and artistic dynamics in Saudi Arabia.
This event underscores cinema's growing importance as a medium for intercultural dialogue. It also aims to bolster Saudi Arabia's international presence through visual arts. The Ministry of Culture is committed to fostering international cultural exchange by showcasing the diverse beauty of Saudi art.
The program "The Saudi Ministry of Culture in Abbazia" has been ongoing since May 10 at the Abbazia building in Venice. It reflects the ministry’s dedication to promoting Saudi culture on a global stage, introducing audiences worldwide to its unique artistic expressions.
This initiative not only highlights emerging talents but also strengthens ties between Saudi Arabia and other cultures through shared artistic experiences. By doing so, it enhances understanding and appreciation of the country's cultural richness.
