Diriyah Company Earns Sword Of Honor And Five-Star Safety Rating From British Safety Council

Diriyah Company has gained major international recognition after receiving the Sword of Honor from the British Safety Council. The award follows the company securing a Five-Star rating in an extensive occupational health and safety audit, making Diriyah Company the first developer in the region to obtain this level of acknowledgment.

The recognition highlights how occupational health and safety have been embedded across Diriyah Company’s activities. The company applies global standards during planning, construction, and operation, while overseeing an average workforce of around 50,000 employees and managing more than 2,500 heavy-duty machines across its development locations.

The British Safety Council’s Five-Star Audit is a detailed assessment that compares occupational health and safety systems against international best practice. For Diriyah Company, the audit examined policies, procedures, and operational controls, with attention to how safety requirements are applied on site and within management structures.

As part of the evaluation, auditors reviewed more than 50 key elements within Diriyah Company’s safety management system. The process included interviews with executive leadership, employees, and stakeholders, alongside field inspections of ongoing operational activities to confirm that documented procedures are actively followed in daily work.

The Sword of Honor and the Five-Star rating are regarded by the British Safety Council as the highest international levels of recognition for health and safety management. These outcomes underline Diriyah Company’s focus on protecting people, supporting safe operations, and maintaining long-term sustainability across the large-scale development programme.

Group Chief Executive Officer of Diriyah Company Jerry Inzerillo explained that occupational safety is treated as a fundamental pillar of the project’s operations rather than a simple operational requirement. Inzerillo stated that the award reflects the company’s drive to apply advanced health and safety systems and strong approaches to risk management and emergency response.

Diriyah Company has so far recorded a Total Recordable Incident Rate of 0.017 across ongoing infrastructure projects. This low rate is described by the company as proof of the effectiveness of its safety framework and as support for its plan to build to international standards while protecting human capital.

The company links these safety achievements with broader national objectives. Diriyah Company reports that its approach contributes to the realization of Saudi Vision 2030 by supporting safe employment, efficient project delivery, and strong governance across a development expected to run for many years under consistent safety controls.

Diriyah is projected to have a notable economic impact within the Kingdom. The project is expected to add approximately SAR70 billion directly to Saudi Arabia’s gross domestic product, create more than 180,000 job opportunities, and eventually provide housing for around 100,000 residents within its planned urban areas.

The master plans for Diriyah include modern office districts and a mix of cultural and educational institutions. These will feature museums, a university, an opera house, Diriyah Arena, hospitality destinations, restaurants, and around 40 hotels and resorts, designed to host visitors, residents, and workers in the same integrated destination.

Diriyah Company notes that strong health and safety performance will remain central as the development grows in scale and complexity. The international recognition from the British Safety Council, recorded at 18:52 Local Time (15:52 GMT) by SPA, is presented as support for maintaining safe operations while the project expands and delivers its planned economic and social outcomes.
