Diriyah Company Launches Two Key Substations With Saudi Electricity Company For Future Development
The Diriyah Company has revealed the launch of two significant electricity substations managed by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). These are the 1707 MVA Bulk Substation and the 200 MVA Primary Substation. Their purpose is to speed up the development of key projects in Diriyah and Wadi Safar. The substations are among the first urban infrastructure projects inspired by Najdi architecture.
The 1707 MVA Bulk Substation, valued at SAR605 million, will support various developments in Diriyah's initial phase. This includes cultural, educational, retail, office, residential, and hotel projects. Areas like Diriyah Square and the Qurain Cultural District will benefit from this substation. The SEC will implement this through Saudi Services for Electro Mechanic Works (SSEM).

To energise the Bulk Substation, a major cabling contract worth SAR316 million will be executed by the Civil and Electrical Projects Contracting Company (CEPCO). This initiative is crucial for powering diverse developments in Diriyah. The integration of traditional Najdi architectural elements ensures that these projects blend seamlessly with their surroundings.
The 200 MVA Primary Substation, with a contract value of SAR77 million, will be implemented by MAETEL contracting company under SEC's supervision. It will serve as a primary power source for Wadi Safar. This area combines natural beauty with top-tier amenities, including hospitality assets and sports venues like the Royal Diriyah Equestrian & Polo Club.
Additionally, to energise this substation, SEC will carry out a significant cabling project worth SAR168 million through DELTA contracting company. The design of both substations reflects Diriyah’s traditional Najdi style while preserving its cultural identity amidst modern development.
Diriyah is one of Saudi Arabia’s five giga-projects supported by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which is among the world's largest sovereign wealth funds. This ambitious project aims to provide housing for 100,000 people and create 178,000 jobs. By 2030, it expects to welcome 50 million visitors annually and contribute $18.6 billion to Saudi Arabia's GDP.
"This destination will feature hospitality assets and sports and recreation venues, including the Royal Diriyah Equestrian & Polo Club and the Greg Norman-designed Wadi Safar Golf Course," stated a press release from Diriyah Company.
These substations highlight Saudi Arabia’s commitment to merging its rich historical heritage with cutting-edge infrastructure. They stand as symbols of progress while honouring past traditions and ensuring a sustainable future for Diriyah.
