Diriyah Company Highlights Environmental Sustainability Efforts During COP16 In Riyadh

Diriyah Company is taking part in the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). This event is being held for the first time in Riyadh from December 2 to 13, under the theme "Our Land, Our Future." Diriyah's participation marks its debut at this global event, highlighted by its pavilion in the Green Zone.

The Diriyah project stands out as a leading initiative in Saudi Arabia, focusing on environmental sustainability and natural resource preservation. It features over eight public parks and more than 20 kilometers of tracks for horses, bicycles, and walking. Additionally, more than 6.5 million native trees, plants, and shrubs are being planted throughout the development.

Diriyah Company Promotes Sustainability at COP16

Diriyah Company is showcasing several innovative projects in the Green Zone that set high standards for sustainability and quality of life. These efforts aim to position Diriyah as a global destination capable of adapting to climate change and becoming one of the most sustainable cities worldwide.

Jerry Inzerillo, Group Chief Executive of Diriyah Company, highlighted the significance of their participation at COP16. "Our participation in COP16 provides a significant opportunity to showcase our pioneering projects, which reflect our commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation," he stated. He also emphasized their pride in contributing to Saudi Arabia's efforts to tackle global environmental challenges.

The project includes a comprehensive sewage treatment plant, two mobile water treatment units, and over 4,000 electric car charging stations. These facilities contribute significantly to energy savings of up to 30% and water savings of up to 50% in certain areas.

Diriyah has achieved over ten certifications in sustainability so far. Notably, it is the first project in the Middle East to receive the Platinum Level LEED for Cities Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Global Collaboration

Inzerillo also noted that COP16 serves as a platform for fostering partnerships with governments, international organizations, and major companies. "We look forward to establishing partnerships with governments, international organizations, and major companies to share knowledge, expertise, and innovative solutions for tackling climate change challenges," he said.

Recently, Diriyah Company received two Mostadam sustainability certifications under the Ajwad Initiative. These certifications recognize its efforts in developing Northern Diriyah and the Ritz-Carlton Residences.

Through its involvement at COP16 with representation from 197 countries, Diriyah Company reaffirms its dedication to achieving top-tier sustainability levels in its projects. The company aims to explore new collaboration opportunities using cutting-edge technologies to protect land resources for future generations.
