DIHAD Advisory Board Meeting Focuses On Strengthening Humanitarian Unity And Partnerships

The annual meeting of the DIHAD International Scientific Advisory Board (DISAB) took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Amb. Dr. Abdulsalam AlMadani, Roving Ambassador for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean for the GCC, and Chairman of DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation, welcomed members. This gathering marked a significant step in shaping future humanitarian efforts.

Participants included representatives from notable organisations such as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), DCAF Genève Center for Security Governance, and International Organisation for Migration (IOM). Other attendees were from the United Nations, UNHCR, Noor Dubai Foundation, UAE Red Crescent Authority, University of Manchester, IFRC, UN OCHA, Terre des Hommes, WFP, ICRC, and Dutch Advisory Council on International Affairs.

Strengthening Humanitarian Unity at DIHAD Meeting

Khaled Al Attar, Director-General of DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation, provided insights into recent initiatives and strategic plans. These efforts aim to enhance cross-border humanitarian collaboration. Discussions focused on scaling solutions in conflict zones and building strong public-private partnerships amid a complex global aid landscape.

The board also set the theme for DIHAD 2026. This forward-looking approach aims to address future humanitarian challenges effectively. The meeting underscored the importance of adapting strategies to meet evolving needs in humanitarian work.

A pre-conference workshop was organised with UNOCHA under the theme: "Ethics in Action: Upholding Humanitarian Values and Ethics Amidst Global Divides." Ms. Sajeda Shawa, Head of OCHA UAE Office, highlighted that advocacy is central to OCHA’s mission. She stated that sharing and amplifying humanitarian efforts is crucial during challenging times globally.

Ms. Shawa added that this meeting has become integral to DIHAD over the years. "We are proud to reaffirm our commitment to hosting it in the years to come," she said. Her remarks emphasised ongoing dedication to supporting humanitarian actors worldwide.

DIHAD 2023 Conference Expectations

The 21st edition of DIHAD is set to commence tomorrow under His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's patronage. Over 18,000 delegates from 160 countries are expected to attend. DIHAD serves as a crucial platform for fostering international cooperation in humanitarian initiatives.

This event highlights Dubai's role as a hub for global humanitarian dialogue and collaboration. It provides an opportunity for stakeholders worldwide to exchange ideas and develop strategies addressing pressing humanitarian issues.
