DIHAD 2024: A Spotlight On Gender Equality, Youth Empowerment, And Global Health Advocacy
The Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD 2024) entered its second day with a robust agenda, featuring 24 main sessions and 144 innovative workshops. This pivotal event has become a cornerstone for NGOs, UN Agencies, charity organizations, governmental bodies, and private sector providers to converge and deliberate on strategies to support individuals impacted by crises. Under the banner of "Humanitarian Diplomacy and a Journey to the Future," the conference has set the stage for critical discussions and the exchange of ideas aimed at enhancing humanitarian efforts globally.
The DIHAD Glasshouse, known for its specialized workshops, continued to serve as a breeding ground for emerging humanitarians. These sessions are designed to empower attendees by building partnerships, facilitating discussions, sharing expertise, and innovating solutions to pressing humanitarian challenges. Ms. Laila Baker, Regional Director for Arab States at the UNFPA, underscored the critical role of humanitarian diplomacy in promoting gender equality. She stressed the importance of including women and youth in the conversation, pointing out their pivotal role in driving transformative change. Similarly, Dherar Belhoul Al Falasi, Executive Director of the Watani Al Emarat Foundation, echoed the sentiment by emphasizing the need for inclusive policies that cater to the diverse needs of women and youth and involve them in decision-making processes.
In an innovative move to engage younger generations in humanitarian efforts, DIHAD 2024 introduced "Children of DIHAD." This initiative engaged children in discussions about their role in humanitarian diplomacy and teamwork, highlighting the importance of charity work from a young age.
Experts gathered in a session titled "Humanitarian Diplomacy: Leadership and New Actors" to explore leadership dynamics within the evolving landscape of crisis response.
