Digital Transformation In Healthcare: UAE And Estonia Strengthen Cooperation For Innovative Solutions
Riina Sikkut, Estonia's Health Minister, highlighted the potential for collaboration between the UAE and Estonia through digital transformation in healthcare. She stated that advancements in both countries' healthcare sectors present a strategic chance to jointly develop innovative solutions. Sikkut shared these insights with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), underscoring the mutual benefits of such cooperation.
Estonia has been a pioneer in digital healthcare since the 1990s, developing a robust e-health system supported by secure digital identity verification. This infrastructure allows for effective linking of health databases, facilitating accurate and real-time data access for healthcare providers and decision-makers. Patients also gain full control over their health information.

The UAE has embraced numerous digital projects in healthcare, enhancing its status among advanced nations. These initiatives improve health data exchange among providers and empower patients to track access to their information. The integration of AI and big data technologies in Estonia further boosts healthcare services, focusing on disease prevention.
Sikkut noted that cooperation between Estonia and the UAE is not new. Since Expo 2020 Dubai, partnerships have formed between Estonian companies and UAE health institutions. These collaborations have led to the creation of advanced digital platforms using AI to increase efficiency in healthcare, paving the way for expanding these solutions within the UAE and beyond.
The upcoming Arab Health Congress 2025 in Dubai from 27th to 30th January presents an excellent opportunity for Estonia to strengthen ties with the UAE in digital health. Sikkut emphasised that Estonia's participation will facilitate further cooperation between the two nations, potentially leading to more innovative developments in this field.
In terms of identity verification and health data integration, Estonia's use of AI and big data technologies has significantly improved its healthcare services. This approach prioritises disease prevention while ensuring secure management of health information.
Sikkut concluded by highlighting that these partnerships have resulted in designing advanced digital platforms based on AI. Such innovations enhance efficiency in healthcare delivery, opening doors for broader implementation across the UAE and the region.
