CST Panel Highlights Digital Innovations' Role In Sustainable Development

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) recently hosted a panel discussion on digital innovations for sustainable development. This event coincided with the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), which focuses on "Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development." The session featured a distinguished group of sustainability experts from various sectors across the Kingdom.

Moderated by CST Deputy Governor for Strategy and Digital Naif Sheshah, the discussion highlighted digital innovations and their impact on achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). The panel also reviewed experiences and lessons learned from using technologies and emphasized collaboration in digital sustainability.

Digital Innovations Boost SDGs

Dr. Ahmed Alsohaily, Group Head of Technology at Red Sea Global, stressed that sustainability is central to all the company’s projects. He noted that this focus on sustainability enhances the destinations' appeal, attracting visitors globally. Dr. Alsohaily's comments underscored the importance of integrating sustainable practices into business strategies to achieve long-term success.

Dr. Rakan Alseghayer, acting Digital Sustainability Director at stc, highlighted the necessity of pioneering solutions to lead a sustainable future. He pointed out that innovative approaches are essential to elevate the information and communications technology (ICT) sector and effectively harness its services.

Abdulrahman Alzamil, General Manager of Sustainability Enablement at the Ministry of Economy and Planning, discussed technology’s role in developing solutions to address complex sustainability issues more efficiently. His insights emphasized the need for continuous innovation to tackle environmental challenges effectively.

Dr. Abdulaziz Alhomod, an advisor and consultant in emergency medicine and clinical informatics at the Ministry of Health, highlighted technology’s transformative potential in healthcare. He envisions advancements leading to smarter, faster, and more effective healthcare services for all. Dr. Alhomod's perspective illustrates how technological progress can significantly improve public health outcomes.

CST's Strategic Partnerships

The CST maintains its commitment to WTISD through a strategic partnership with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). This collaboration aims to achieve joint goals and raise awareness of potential success stories that promote digital innovation and support the SDGs.
