Grand Mosque Enhances Visitor Experience With Digital And Paper Maps
In a significant move to enhance the experience of visitors, Umrah, and Hajj performers at the two holy mosques, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has introduced a comprehensive digital and paper mapping service. This initiative aims to streamline the movement of worshippers within these sacred precincts, ensuring a smoother spiritual journey.
The digital interactive map, known as Makani, is a pivotal tool in this endeavor. It allows visitors to the Grand Mosque to easily locate various places where they can perform religious rituals, alongside identifying key landmarks such as the courtyard and the Masa'a building. This is facilitated through 200 QR panels strategically placed throughout the Grand Mosque, enabling worshippers to access detailed information about essential facilities. These include gates, libraries, restrooms, guidance offices, cart locations, escalators, elevators, and hospitals.

To cater to a global audience, this digital map is available in 51 languages, reflecting the authority's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Additionally, the General Administration of Survey and Geographic Information Systems at the Grand Mosque complements this digital tool with a paper map. This physical map is translated into several languages and works in tandem with guidance panels affixed to the walls of the Grand Mosque. The aim is to facilitate easy navigation for worshippers, allowing them to focus on their rituals without concern for logistical challenges.
This initiative by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque underscores their continuous efforts to improve the visitor experience. By integrating technology through Makani and providing multilingual support, they are setting a new standard in facilitating religious tourism. This approach not only aids in managing the flow of visitors but also enriches their spiritual journey in these holy sites.
