Dibba Hospital Earns Prestigious 'Baby-Friendly Hospital' Accreditation From WHO And UNICEF

Emirates Health Services (EHS) has recently marked a significant achievement as Dibba Hospital, one of its facilities, was recognized as a "Baby-Friendly Hospital" by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). This prestigious designation is a testament to the hospital's commitment to providing high-quality healthcare for children and delivering superior medical services. The recognition came after Dibba Hospital successfully passed the policy implementation test, adhering to both international and local codes.

The hospital underwent a rigorous three-day evaluation by WHO and UNICEF, through the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) National Committee for Motherhood and Childhood. It met all the criteria for the "Baby-Friendly Hospital" title, reflecting its dedication to promoting breastfeeding through various supportive measures. These measures include adopting a breastfeeding policy, providing staff training, creating a supportive environment for mothers to breastfeed, and offering educational sessions for mothers during prenatal and postnatal visits.

Dibba Hospital Gains 'Baby-Friendly' Status

Dr. Essam Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director of Clinical Services Sector at EHS, emphasized the significance of this title for EHS’ facilities. He stated that it symbolizes EHS’ dedication to delivering top-tier healthcare with a special focus on the health and well-being of children. The "Baby-Friendly Hospital" designation showcases the hospital's commitment to upholding global standards in providing specialized medical services for children.

Wedad Mohammed Al Fard, Director of Dibba Hospital, expressed her pride in this accomplishment. She highlighted that this success reflects the dedication and positive teamwork of the hospital staff, who consistently strive to improve healthcare services and create a safe environment for children and their families. The combined efforts of the administrative, medical, nursing, and technical staff at the hospital were commended.

The "Baby-Friendly Hospital" initiative by WHO and UNICEF aims to safeguard and enhance the health of infants and young children. It focuses on addressing the needs of mothers and their newborns to facilitate successful breastfeeding as the optimal beginning to life. The initiative promotes, safeguards, and improves breastfeeding practices to support the health of both child and mother.

This achievement aligns with EHS’ directives, plans, and strategies aimed at providing excellent care for women's and children's health. It involves implementing quality policies and programmes, training healthcare professionals involved in maternal and child health, raising awareness about global trends and best practices, and equipping them with necessary skills to deliver quality healthcare for children.
