DGR Sharjah Engages With Maldives Ministry Of Culture To Enhance Cultural Cooperation
Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah, recently hosted a delegation from the Maldives. The group was led by Adam Naseer Ibrahim, Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage. The meeting also included Sheikh Majid Al Qasimi, DGR Director, and Mohamed Hussain Shareef, the Maldivian Ambassador to the UAE.
The discussions centred on strengthening ties between Sharjah and the Maldives in cultural heritage preservation. This follows the recent inclusion of the Faya Palaeolandscape on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Both parties explored ways to share expertise and enhance collaborative efforts in cultural initiatives.

Adam Naseer Ibrahim praised Sharjah for its cultural accomplishments and international reputation. He congratulated the emirate on the Faya Palaeolandscape's UNESCO listing. He also highlighted his government's dedication to culture and history, mentioning plans to nominate 18th-century coral stone mosques for UNESCO recognition.
The Maldivian minister expressed interest in learning from Sharjah's experience with UNESCO listings. He proposed a twinning agreement to foster cultural collaboration and broaden cooperation between both regions.
Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi emphasised Sharjah’s dedication to preserving culture and heritage. This commitment has attracted regional offices of major international organisations like ICCROM-Sharjah and ICESCO. These centres offer consultancy and technical support for heritage protection.
The Chairman noted that specialised academic programmes bolster these efforts. The University of Sharjah offers a master’s degree in cultural heritage preservation management in partnership with ICCROM. This programme aims to develop professionals skilled in creating effective heritage protection systems.
