DEWA's Sustainability And Innovation Centre Launches Hydrogen And Solar Architecture Training Programmes

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is enhancing its professional development offerings through its Sustainability and Innovation Centre. Two new certification programmes in sustainability and clean energy are being introduced. These include Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and Solar Architecture, developed with the International Energy Agency and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, alongside a Hydrogen Energy Professional programme organised with TÜV Rheinland Academy.

The BIPV and Solar Architecture course will run from 2nd to 4th February 2026. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of solar architecture, learning how photovoltaic technology can be integrated into building materials. The course covers various BIPV applications, alternatives for building envelopes, and introduces tools like BIMsolar for BIPV analysis.

DEWA Introduces New Sustainability Training Programmes

Participants will also explore envelope engineering, fire safety considerations for PV in buildings, and evaluate the cost competitiveness of BIPV solutions. This foundational knowledge is tailored for building professionals seeking to enhance their skills in this area.

The Hydrogen Energy Professional programme is scheduled from 17th to 19th November 2025. It aims to provide participants with a thorough understanding of hydrogen's physical and chemical properties. The course focuses on safe handling, storage methods, and legal regulations surrounding hydrogen energy.

This initiative is part of DEWA's broader efforts to support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, stated that the centre plays a crucial role in preparing the UAE energy sector for future challenges through exhibitions, training programmes, and interactive competitions.

Sustainability Management Skills

From 8th to 12th December 2025, another programme will equip participants with environmental, social, and governance skills. It aims to foster effective sustainability management practices across various fields. This initiative complements DEWA’s commitment to nurturing national talent and equipping Emirati professionals to lead sustainable development efforts.

To date, the centre has delivered 15 professional training courses with 294 graduates. These programmes are designed to hone specialists' skills in key sustainability fields. Upon completion, participants receive accredited professional certificates.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasised that "The Sustainability and Innovation Centre plays a vital role in enhancing the UAE energy sector’s readiness for the future through its exhibitions, training programmes and interactive competitions." He highlighted the importance of broadening participation in climate action through innovative solutions.

The centre collaborates with strategic partners such as universities, academic institutions, and start-ups to showcase innovations in clean energy while offering scientific development opportunities. These efforts aim to accelerate the energy transition by equipping professionals with necessary skills.
