DEWA Enhances Inclusivity For People Of Determination Through Innovative Initiatives In 2024

In 2024, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) made notable progress in fostering an inclusive society by empowering People of Determination. Through innovative initiatives and smart technologies, DEWA enhanced accessibility, enabling these individuals to contribute to national objectives. The organisation remains committed to investing in advanced technologies and practices that improve the quality of life for People of Determination.

DEWA's efforts include infrastructure improvements, digital accessibility enhancements, inclusive policies, and employee support programmes. These initiatives align with Dubai's vision for a more accessible and sustainable future where everyone can thrive. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasised their dedication to supporting the Dubai Social Agenda 33 by ensuring equal opportunities for all societal segments.

Al Tayer stated, "We are dedicated to adhering to the directives of our wise leadership and supporting the Dubai Social Agenda 33. Our goal is to ensure that all segments of society have equal opportunities in every aspect of life. We are keen to ensure the right of People of Determination to access all services, facilities and information, and to actively participate in the process of development and prosperity."

In 2024, DEWA achieved all strategic indicators related to the inclusion and empowerment of People of Determination for the fifth consecutive year. This includes employee happiness and family satisfaction with DEWA’s inclusive work environment. Al Tayer noted that Employees of Determination reported 100% happiness for three years running, while their families' satisfaction reached 98.07%.

Community satisfaction with DEWA’s support for People of Determination was at 94.68%, while Customers of Determination expressed a 97.64% happiness level with DEWA’s services. The organisation received accolades such as the Best People-of-Determination-Friendly Government Entity award at the Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP) 2024.

Additionally, DEWA earned the 'Accessible UNI' Golden Certificate from Dubai Municipality for ten evaluated buildings. Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, highlighted their investment in technology and support systems to empower People of Determination at work.

Technological Advancements

DEWA ensures that its facilities, information, and services are accessible to People of Determination. The organisation has excelled in meeting government standards for website and smart app accessibility. According to the 2024 POD Accessibility Evaluation Report by Digital Dubai Authority, DEWA’s smart app scored a perfect 10/10 for five consecutive years.

The website also achieved a perfect score for four consecutive years. Employees received necessary training and facilitation support tailored to their needs within the work environment. All human resources policies were reviewed and updated according to best practices globally.

Training Initiatives

DEWA fulfilled government requirements in inclusive education at DEWA Academy by implementing interactive workshops on educational practices and child safety. By late 2024, DEWA had trained 11,358 employees on creating a safe work environment.

This included training 418 employees on evacuation chair use and conducting emergency evacuation drills involving 762 employees between 2020 and 2024 across 27 exercises.

The organisation's commitment extends beyond compliance; it aims to create an environment where everyone can succeed equally. Through continuous efforts in inclusivity and accessibility, DEWA sets a standard for others aiming towards similar goals.
