DEWA Showcases Its Commitment To Sustainability At Abu Dhabi Week
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is set to play a significant role in the upcoming Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), hosted by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) from 16th to 18th April 2024. This event is a cornerstone in promoting sustainable development and marks a concerted effort towards economic, social, and environmental progress. DEWA's involvement includes participation in four panel discussions and the exhibition of its pioneering projects and initiatives at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), specifically in Hall No. 5 (Energy Hall).
The leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has been instrumental in positioning the UAE as a leader in renewable and clean energy investment. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized that their participation underscores the UAE's commitment to sustainability and strategic partnership with Masdar. DEWA aims to showcase innovative solutions that bolster the UAE's status in the global sustainability arena, facilitating a platform for sharing experiences, best practices, and the latest technologies in clean and renewable energy.

Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA's objectives to diversify energy sources and increase clean energy's share in Dubai, aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies aim for Dubai’s total power production capacity to be sourced from clean energy by 2050.
At the World Future Energy Summit 2024, Mohamed Abdulkarim Al Shamsi, Chief Officer of Climate Change and Sustainability at DEWA, will discuss 'Navigating a low carbon pathway to a just energy transition'. This panel will focus on DEWA's sustainability efforts and its move towards clean and renewable energy sources.
On another day, Mohammad Jame, Vice President - Clean Energy and Diversification at DEWA, will speak on 'Energy decarbonisation: Tripling installed renewables by 2030'. Jame will discuss DEWA's renewable energy initiatives and developments at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This solar park is set to be the largest single-site solar park globally, aiming for a production capacity of over 5,000 MW by 2030.
Dr. Hesham Ismail, Senior Manager - Technology Advancement and Demonstration at DEWA, will participate in the Green Hydrogen Summit on ADSW's first day. Dr. Ismail will shed light on DEWA’s pilot Green Hydrogen Project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, marking a significant step in producing hydrogen using solar power in the MENA region.
Athbeh Al Shehhi, Senior Engineer - Climate Change and Sustainability at DEWA, will engage in a discussion on the Youth 4 Sustainability platform. Al Shehhi’s participation aims to underscore DEWA’s commitment to empowering Emirati youth towards becoming sustainability leaders.
ADSW serves as a testament to the UAE's dedication to leading global climate action efforts. Through its participation, DEWA not only reaffirms its commitment to sustainability but also contributes significantly towards achieving global sustainability goals.
