DEWA Partners With Parkin To Boost EV Charging Infrastructure In Dubai

In a significant move towards enhancing sustainability and promoting the use of environmentally friendly transport, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has teamed up with Parkin, Dubai's leading supplier of paid public parking facilities, through a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This collaboration aims to increase the availability of EV 'Green Charger' stations across several key locations managed by Parkin. The initiative stands as a testament to both entities' commitment to improving customer experience and fostering a sustainable green economy.

The MoU was signed in a ceremony attended by notable figures including HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Ahmed Bahrozyan, Chairman of Parkin. The agreement was officially sealed by Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, and Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, marking a pivotal step in supporting the UAE's transition to smart mobility and a sustainable future.

Expanding Dubai s EV Charging Network

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlighted the UAE's leadership in adopting sustainable practices and its efforts towards reducing carbon emissions in the transport sector. He noted the remarkable increase in electric vehicles (EVs) in Dubai, with over 30,000 vehicles reported by the end of April 2024, and more than 15,000 registered customers for the EV Green Charger initiative by the end of March 2024. These numbers underscore Dubai's successful strides in encouraging the adoption of sustainable transport solutions.

The partnership between DEWA and Parkin is aligned with the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aiming to enhance the EV infrastructure and offer convenient access to charging facilities. This initiative not only supports urban planning and sustainable development but also contributes to the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, enhancing Dubai's status as a leading global city for living and working.

Ahmed Bahrozyan expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the strategic role of Parkin in the transport ecosystem and its commitment to sustainable mobility. With over 197,000 parking spaces managed by Parkin, the integration of EV charging facilities is poised to support the global transition to electric vehicles, incentivizing adoption, and contributing to environmental goals.

Since its inception in 2015, DEWA's EV Green Charger initiative has made substantial progress, providing around 26,000 MWh of electricity for charging EVs in Dubai, which translates to powering electric vehicles for approximately 130 million kilometres. DEWA has also introduced several features to streamline the charging process for electric vehicle owners, including creating an EV Green Charger account for registered customers and offering a guest mode for unregistered users. Furthermore, DEWA has launched the 'Dubai EV Community Hub' website to centralize information on the EV ecosystem and promote the uptake of electric vehicles.

This partnership between DEWA and Parkin is a clear indicator of Dubai's dedication to sustainability and its proactive approach to integrating innovative technologies for a greener future. The expansion of the EV Green Charger network through this collaboration promises to enhance the electric vehicle charging infrastructure and support the city's sustainable mobility goals.
