DEWA Reports 5.49% Increase In Power Generation With 45.14 TWh In Nine Months
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) produced 45.14 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity in the first nine months of 2024. This marks a 5.49% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2023. This growth mirrors Dubai's economic expansion and DEWA's dedication to fulfilling rising energy needs.
The summer gross heat rate achieved by DEWA was 7,923 BTU/kWh, marking its best performance in this area. This achievement underscores DEWA’s commitment to sustainable operational excellence. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, stated, "We are committed to keep pace with the steady increase in demand for energy and water and the growth in population and visitor numbers in Dubai."

Al Tayer emphasised that DEWA supports Dubai’s strong economic performance and aims to build the world's most active economy. He noted that this aligns with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to double the economy's size over the next decade, along with the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision.
He further explained that DEWA is focused on developing robust infrastructure and expanding transmission and distribution networks to match Dubai's rapid growth. "This strengthens our global position and ensures that we continue to deliver our services according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency and sustainability," he added.
In the third quarter of 2024, DEWA's installed generation capacity reached 16.779 GW. Clean energy contributed 17% of this total capacity during this period. DEWA remains dedicated to incorporating clean energy sources into its generation mix to meet increasing demand sustainably.
This approach not only supports environmental goals but also enhances Dubai's position as a leader in sustainable practices globally. By maintaining high standards of service delivery, DEWA continues to bolster its reputation for reliability and efficiency.
DEWA’s efforts reflect its strategic objectives aligned with national visions for economic growth and sustainability. The authority remains focused on meeting future demands while supporting Dubai's ambitious development plans.
