DEWA Showcases Future-Ready Initiatives For A Resilient Economy At Knowledge Summit 2025
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is actively participating in the 10th Knowledge Summit. This event is under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. Organised by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme, it will occur on 19th and 20th November 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed support for Dubai's transformation into a future city. He stated, "We support the vision of our wise leadership to transform Dubai into a city of the future and enhance its position as a global hub based on the knowledge economy. At DEWA, we believe that innovation, science and knowledge are the pillars that elevate human potential. They are essential for empowering national talent and equipping them with the necessary tools to shape a sustainable future. The Knowledge Summit is a major global platform that highlights the most prominent efforts to drive the knowledge economy and sustainable development, empowering individuals and societies alike."

During the summit's exhibition, DEWA will present its significant projects promoting sustainability and innovation. Among these is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. It stands as the largest single-site solar park globally using an independent power producer model. Currently, it has a production capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW). By 2030, this capacity will surpass 8,000 MW from an initial plan of 5,000 MW.
Clean energy now constitutes 21.5 percent of DEWA’s installed capacity. The expansion of solar park capacity aims to cut carbon emissions by 8.5 million tonnes annually by 2030, up from an earlier target of reducing 6.5 million tonnes.
DEWA's Research and Development (R&D) Centre plays a crucial role in reinforcing Dubai’s status as a research hub in solar energy and smart grids. The centre focuses on enhancing energy efficiency and water management capabilities. It employs 45 staff members; among them are nine PhD holders (including two Emiratis) and 19 with master’s degrees (16 Emiratis).
The R&D Centre has made significant contributions since its inception. In 2023 alone, it published 336 Scopus-indexed scientific papers across various international conferences and journals. Additionally, it has filed for 57 patents with 18 already registered.
The Knowledge Summit serves as an important platform for showcasing efforts towards building a knowledge-based society and economy. DEWA's participation underscores its commitment to fostering sustainable development through innovation in clean energy solutions.
