DEWA Celebrates Employees Graduating As Sustainability Youth Ambassadors

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently recognised 20 employees for completing the Sustainability Youth Ambassadors Programme. This initiative, a collaboration between DEWA and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), underscores the UAE's commitment to empowering young professionals in sustainability. Al Tayer emphasized the importance of investing in Emirati youth to foster future leaders in climate action, aligning with the UAE's strategic vision for environmental stewardship and economic development.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, highlighted the programme's role in preparing participants to become effective advocates for sustainability. Launched during the Sustainability Year 2023, the initiative aims to cultivate a deep understanding of sustainable practices among young employees. These ambassadors are tasked with promoting environmental awareness within their communities, thereby contributing to Dubai and the UAE's reputation as a leader in sustainable development.

DEWA Honours Sustainability Ambassadors

Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, pointed out the organisation's efforts to instil a culture of sustainability among its workforce. Through comprehensive training programmes and innovative initiatives like the Youth Ambassadors Programme, DEWA equips its young staff with the leadership skills necessary to drive sustainability efforts. Since completing the programme, these ambassadors have actively participated in key events such as COP28 at Expo City Dubai, WETEX, and the Dubai Solar Show 2023. They have also engaged in 'Sustainability Talks', virtual discussions organised by DEWA to enhance employee awareness on sustainable development topics.

The collaboration between DEWA and CISL through the Sustainability Youth Ambassadors Programme exemplifies a shared commitment to environmental education and leadership development. By nurturing young talent and promoting sustainable practices, DEWA is playing a crucial role in advancing the UAE's global leadership in sustainability.
