DEWA Strengthens Partnerships With Leading Chinese Companies In Renewable Energy Technologies

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently led a delegation to China. The visit aimed to strengthen ties with Chinese firms, focusing on renewable energy collaboration. Discussions included sharing global best practices in solar and storage technologies, aligning with Dubai's clean energy objectives.

DEWA is advancing the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This phase will feature 2,000 MW photovoltaic solar panels and a 1,400 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with six-hour storage capacity. Implemented under the independent power producer (IPP) model, it ranks among the largest projects globally combining solar power and battery storage.

DEWA Partners with Chinese Firms for Clean Energy

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA's collaboration with major Chinese companies in various energy sectors, especially clean and renewable energy. Many prominent Chinese firms are involved in DEWA's initiatives, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, recognised as the world's largest single-site solar park based on the IPP model.

The delegation comprised several key figures from DEWA. These included Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence; Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power; Marwan bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future; Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources; Mohammed Jamea, Vice President of Clean Energy and Diversification; Ghanim Al Qassim, Senior Manager of Solar Energy; along with other engineers.

During their visit to China, Al Tayer and his team toured several significant facilities. They visited Huawei’s headquarters, BYD’s headquarters, Tesla BESS factory, a Sungrow facility and the CRRC Zhuzhou Institute. The purpose was to learn about cutting-edge practices in photovoltaic solar panels, energy storage systems, artificial intelligence applications, smart solutions and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.

This strategic visit underscores DEWA's commitment to enhancing its renewable energy capabilities through international cooperation. By engaging with leading Chinese companies and exploring advanced technologies, DEWA aims to support Dubai's vision for sustainable energy development.
