DEWA Enhances Ties With Chinese Companies For Energy And Water Collaboration
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently met with Ou Boqian, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China to Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation in the energy and water sectors and explore promising investment opportunities.
The discussions centred on strengthening strategic partnerships between DEWA and Chinese companies, particularly in renewable energy. This collaboration supports Dubai's clean energy goals. Both parties exchanged views on best practices and opportunities in solar power, energy storage, and smart grid infrastructure.

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA's commitment to accelerating the energy transition. He aims to position Dubai as a global hub for clean energy and the green economy. This aligns with the vision of Dubai's leadership and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which targets 100% clean energy by 2050.
Several major Chinese companies are involved in DEWA's projects. These include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park globally based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, and Hassyan Power Complex, also based on the IPP model.
The meeting also discussed Chinese companies' participation in exhibitions and conferences organised by DEWA. One such event is the Water, Energy and Environment Technology Exhibition (WETEX).
Commitment to Clean Energy Goals
Ou Boqian praised DEWA's role in driving Dubai's clean energy transition. She reiterated China's commitment to supporting Dubai's energy goals. "We are confident in further collaboration with DEWA," she expressed.
Al Tayer emphasised DEWA's ongoing collaboration with many Chinese companies in energy-related areas, especially clean and renewable energy. This partnership is crucial for achieving Dubai's ambitious clean energy targets.
The meeting underscored both sides' dedication to enhancing cooperation in renewable energy sectors. They aim to support Dubai’s vision for a sustainable future through strategic partnerships.
