Destination Is North Initiative Highlights Saudi Arabia's Diverse Tourism Assets And Natural Heritage

A group of travel enthusiasts has launched "Destination is North," a community initiative aimed at showcasing Saudi Arabia's diverse tourism assets. The journey highlights the Kingdom's rich natural, heritage, and cultural elements. It promotes responsible tourism by encouraging practices that preserve the environment and protect heritage sites, raising awareness about safeguarding tourism resources for future generations.

The journey began in Riyadh, travelled through Hail Region, and reached AlUla before concluding in Tabuk Region. This route showcases northern Saudi Arabia's geographical diversity, featuring remarkable rock formations and natural vistas. The initiative is part of a series of exploratory trips across the Kingdom to encourage domestic tourism and highlight unique tourist sites.

The "Destination is North" initiative aims to strengthen the connection between people and places while supporting national efforts to advance sustainable tourism. It highlights Saudi Arabia's rich natural diversity as part of an ongoing community effort to open new exploration horizons across the Kingdom’s regions.

Khalid Abdulrahman, an artist and tourism-focused traveller who supervises the journey, emphasised AlUla as a prominent stop due to its unique nature and distinctive rock formations. These features make it a standout destination on the cultural and natural tourism map, attracting visitors from both inside the Kingdom and abroad.

Abdulrahman noted that the initiative focuses on showcasing diverse tourism experiences across Saudi Arabia’s regions. It highlights ongoing developments in tourism services and infrastructure through field tours by car, visually documenting distinctive sites, and sharing them with the world to introduce Saudi Arabia’s beauty and diversity.

He affirmed that as Saudi citizens, they play an important role in introducing their homeland's landmarks. They convey its true image to visitors, reflecting Saudi society's generosity and warm hospitality while contributing to an authentic human experience that remains memorable for visitors.

Encouraging Domestic Tourism

The "Destination is North" route is part of a comprehensive national journey aimed at encouraging domestic tourism.
