Design Space AlUla: Shaping the Future of Architecture and Design
Design Space AlUla, nestled in the vibrant AlJadidah Arts District, has emerged as a beacon for diverse design endeavors, aligning with AlUla's mission to bolster the Kingdom's flourishing arts and culture landscape. This includes a focus on nurturing talent among students, design professionals, and aficionados alike. Since its inauguration on February 15, the gallery has been at the forefront of showcasing design excellence within a modern architectural marvel.
The structure, a brainchild of Italian studio Gio Forma, draws inspiration from the ancient brick edifices characteristic of the AlJadidah neighborhood. Its construction utilizes Corten steel, glass, and polished concrete, creating a dialogue between traditional and contemporary design elements. Under the stewardship of Eng. Sara Ghani, Design Space AlUla's curator, the gallery has embarked on a journey to foster connections with both local and international design circles through exhibitions and workshops that span various disciplines including architecture, urban planning, production, and graphic design.

The gallery's debut exhibition, "Mawrid: Celebrating Inspired Design," sets the stage for a series of showcases that will unfold until June 1. Accompanied by an array of cultural events and dialogues, "Mawrid" delves into the visual identity of Design Space AlUla, crafted by Clara Sancho Studio and 29Letters design studio, reflecting the unique architectural essence of AlUla.
An immersive experience curated by Atelier Brückner offers visitors a sensory journey through designs that pay homage to AlUla's enchanting landscape. This exhibition not only highlights works by various designers but also features contributions from finalists of the second edition of the AlUla Design Award.
Eng. Ghani articulates the gallery's vision as one that celebrates AlUla's rich natural history and cultural heritage while fostering a sustainable future deeply rooted in the locale. The overarching goal is to bolster the design sector by providing resources that encourage designers to innovate and experiment. Furthermore, Design Space AlUla aspires to be a hub where visitors can engage with the evolutionary journey of AlUla's design narrative.
In its pursuit to serve as a repository for creative projects, AlUla is dedicated to compiling an archive that acts as both a source of inspiration and a comprehensive record of local design initiatives. This initiative underscores AlUla's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while inspiring future generations of designers.
As reported by SPA at 11:33 local time (08:33 GMT), this development marks a significant milestone in AlUla's ongoing efforts to position itself as a leading center for arts and culture within the Kingdom and beyond.
