Decent Housing Project By SDRPY Enhances Living Conditions For 650 Families In Aden

The "Decent Housing" initiative, a collaborative effort between the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), Alwaleed Philanthropies, and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), has reached its conclusion. This project aimed to enhance living conditions for families in Yemen's Aden Governorate. A ceremony marking this achievement was held at the SDRPY headquarters in Riyadh.

Attendees at the event included Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, secretary-general of Alwaleed Philanthropies, Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber, supervisor-general of the program, and Eng. Salem Al Abboudi, Minister of Public Works and Roads. Additionally, Dr. Waed Badhib, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Irfaan Ali, Chief of Staff at UN-Habitat, and Rania Headeya, UN-Habitat Regional Representative, joined via video link.

This pioneering project in Yemen's housing sector aimed to provide adequate living conditions for Yemeni families. It successfully improved the lives of over 4,500 individuals from 900 families by rehabilitating 650 housing units in Aden's Al-Mualla and Khor Maksar districts. The initiative sought to create a better urban future for these communities.

Beyond housing improvements, the project also focused on building capacity within the housing, construction, and building sectors. Thousands of job opportunities were created alongside hundreds of training sessions. These efforts have significantly contributed to sustainable development in the region.

The SDRPY has been instrumental in implementing various development projects across 14 Yemeni governorates. Their initiatives span essential sectors such as education, health, water supply, energy provision, transportation infrastructure, agriculture and fisheries enhancement, as well as bolstering the capabilities of the Yemeni government.

This comprehensive approach aims to address critical needs while fostering long-term growth and stability in Yemen. By focusing on diverse sectors, SDRPY ensures that development efforts are holistic and impactful.

The "Decent Housing" project stands as a testament to successful collaboration between international organisations and local entities. Its completion marks a significant milestone in improving living standards for many Yemeni families while contributing to broader regional development goals.
