Deaf Pilgrims Embrace Hajj Experience Through Sign Language Support Services
David James, a pilgrim from the United States, shared his journey to Islam. He spent years searching for answers to deep questions about life and spirituality. Growing up, he found no satisfying answers until he stumbled upon an English translation of the Holy Quran. David, who is deaf and now known as Abdullah, communicated through sign language that reading the Quran brought him unparalleled peace.
Abdullah's quest for understanding led him to embrace Islam four years ago. The Quran was unlike any book he had read before, prompting him to explore further. Today, he is preparing to perform Hajj under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Guests Program for Hajj, Umrah, and Visitation for 1446 AH. This program is managed by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance.

Abdullah is part of a group of deaf and hard-of-hearing pilgrims experiencing a historic moment at the Holy Kaaba. He described his first steps towards the Sacred House as filled with joy. The sight of the Kaaba, fellow pilgrims' smiles, and heartfelt prayers created an atmosphere of peace and comfort.
Another US pilgrim, Abdulraouf Abdulrazzaq, grew up in an Islamic environment and married a Muslim woman who is also deaf. For years, they watched Hajj coverage on media platforms, longing to fulfill this pillar of Islam. Their dream finally came true when they embarked on this spiritual journey together.
The couple's nine-year-old son Imad remains in the United States, memorising the Holy Quran. He has already memorised 15 chapters. His father hopes one day to bring him to perform Hajj and visit the Grand Mosque.
