DCT Abu Dhabi Partners With ADU And Rubika To Launch First Dual-Certified Bachelor Of Arts In Game Design

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Abu Dhabi University (ADU), and Rubika have collaborated to introduce a Bachelor of Arts degree in Video Game Design. This programme, set to begin in the upcoming academic year, signifies a major advancement for Abu Dhabi’s creative industries. The agreement was signed by Saeed Ali Al Fazari from DCT Abu Dhabi, Prof. Ghassan Aouad of ADU, and Dr. Stephane Andre from Rubika.

Rubika, a renowned French institution in video game design, animation, and digital arts, will lead the academic aspects of the programme. They will oversee curriculum development and faculty training while offering international exchange opportunities with their global campuses. This approach aims to bring international best practices to Abu Dhabi.

First Dual-Certified Game Design Degree in Abu Dhabi

DCT Abu Dhabi plans to enhance industry integration through structured internships and mentorships via Abu Dhabi Gaming. They will also connect students with local game studios. Additionally, DCT Abu Dhabi is committed to funding up to 140 scholarships over six years to support student participation in the programme.

Prof. Ghassan Aouad stated that ADU is dedicated to offering future-focused programmes that align with the UAE’s innovation goals. He emphasised that this partnership reflects their commitment to meeting emerging industry demands by launching the region's first dual-certified game design degree.

Saeed Ali Al Fazari highlighted that this initiative aligns with DCT Abu Dhabi’s strategic objectives to boost culture and creative industries in the emirate. He noted that providing world-class education and practical experience for aspiring game designers will foster regional and global growth in the gaming sector.

Dr. Stephane Andre expressed enthusiasm about partnering with ADU and DCT Abu Dhabi, noting it as a significant opportunity for Rubika. He mentioned their strategy focuses on regions with rich cultural heritage, encouraging students to draw from their cultural roots in creating video games and animated films.

Abu Dhabi's Vision for Excellence

Abu Dhabi University will host the programme on its campus, ensuring compliance with national accreditation standards while delivering an innovative academic experience. This initiative aims to position Abu Dhabi as a hub for game design education by equipping students with globally competitive skills.
