DCO Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya Commends Global Digital Compact At Summit Of The Future

During the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), spoke at the Summit of the Future. She commended the newly adopted Global Digital Compact, highlighting its importance in addressing various digital divides. AlYahya pointed out that these divides include gaps in digital intelligence, computing capabilities, gender, and skills.

The AI and computing divide is a significant concern, as some countries advance quickly in AI innovation while others lag behind. This gap presents a major obstacle to global progress. Furthermore, the gender digital divide restricts women's access to technology and opportunities. The skills divide also leaves many without essential competencies for success in today's digital economy.

DCO Leader Praises Global Digital Compact

AlYahya praised the Global Digital Compact for setting "an ambitious roadmap for an inclusive, open, sustainable, fair, safe, and secure digital future for all." However, she stressed that turning these goals into real actions remains challenging. This is particularly crucial as nations strive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To aid these efforts, AlYahya introduced the Digital Economy Navigator (DEN). This innovative tool offers detailed insights into digital economy performance across 50 countries. While DEN is a valuable resource, she noted it is only a starting point. She urged countries, organizations, and individuals to collaborate in this vital mission.

On the sidelines of the UNGA meeting, the DCO signed agreements with both the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the League of Arab States (LAS). These agreements aim to enhance digital cooperation and accelerate digital transformation efforts. They also support initiatives directed at achieving the SDGs.

"The Global Digital Compact outlines an ambitious roadmap for an inclusive, open, sustainable, fair, safe and secure digital future for all," said AlYahya. She emphasized that translating these principles into action is crucial as we work towards achieving global development goals.

The launch of DEN marks a significant step forward in understanding digital economies worldwide. However, AlYahya highlighted that much more needs to be done. She called on all stakeholders to join forces in bridging these divides and fostering a more equitable digital landscape.
