DCO Concludes Fourth General Assembly, Launches New Digital Economy Initiatives For Member States

The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) recently wrapped up its fourth General Assembly in Jordan. This event launched new initiatives to bridge the global digital divide and set the 2025-2028 agenda to boost digital maturity among member states. The assembly's declaration saw 16 member states reaffirm their dedication to a sustainable, human-centric digital economy.

During the assembly, member states endorsed several cross-border initiatives. These included the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Standard of Excellence and the Interoperability Mechanism for Cross-Border Data Flows. They also supported Model Contractual Clauses, the AI Ethics Evaluator, and the AI Readiness Toolkit.

DCO Launches Digital Economy Initiatives

The DCO's Secretary General, Deemah AlYahya, emphasized the organization's future goals. "The General Assembly marked four years of progress for DCO, reaffirming our commitment to uniting governments, the private sector, and civil society to discuss the state of the digital economy and the shared challenges in achieving inclusive and sustainable global digital prosperity," she stated.

AlYahya further noted that while significant progress has been made, more efforts are needed to foster digital economic growth. "Our 2025-2028 agenda marks the beginning of a new digital era for DCO. Global collaboration will be essential in achieving inclusive and sustainable development, benefiting over 800 million people across our 16 member states and shaping a better future for generations to come," she added.

The assembly also adopted a resolution to expand membership by creating an associate membership mechanism. This move aims to broaden participation and enhance cooperation among nations striving for digital advancement.

The DCO was established in November 2020 as a multilateral international organization. It comprises 16 member states with a combined GDP exceeding $3.5 trillion and a population of over 800 million. Notably, youth under 35 make up 70% of this population.

Focus on Sustainability

DCO members also backed initiatives like the Framework for Strengthening National Agendas to Combat Online Misinformation and an E-Waste Management Framework. Additionally, they agreed on forming a ministerial committee led by Kuwait.

The organization aims to promote digital prosperity by supporting shared interests among its members through fostering digital transformation. The successful implementation of initiatives like WE-Elevate was commended during this assembly.

This gathering highlighted DCO's ongoing commitment to unite various sectors in addressing challenges within the digital economy. By focusing on inclusivity and sustainability, they aim to ensure global digital prosperity for future generations.
